Inspiration Anthony J. D’Angelo

Anthony J. D'Angelo is a man who has sparked a revolution in higher education. In the spring of 1995, he was inspired by a vision to Take Higher Education Deeper. At the young age of 23, he left his cushy job, liquidated his personal savings, got a "grant" from his Discover Card (he went into over $150,000 in personal debt to fund the vision) and drove throughout the Mid-Atlantic to interview over 5,000 college students and 1,000 university professionals. His goal was to gain the pulse of what college students were missing. Six months into his journey he found it. Based on his research and interviews he learned what was missing from most students’ collegiate experience. As D’Angelo says, "Most college students go to college and get a degree, but not an education." From this reality he went on to create a small yet passionate educational group called EmPower X!. EmPower X! is a team of young adults all under the age of 30 dedicated to empowering other young adults.

Inspiration Hippocrates

Hippocrates was an ancient Greek physician who lived during Greece’s Classical period and is traditionally regarded as the father of medicine. It is difficult to isolate the facts of Hippocrates’ life from the later tales told about him or to assess his medicine accurately in the face of centuries of reverence for him as the ideal physician. About 60 medical writings have survived that bear his name, most of which were not written by him. He has been revered for his ethical standards in medical practice, mainly for the Hippocratic Oath, which, it is suspected, he did not write. http://www.egs.edu/library/hippocrates/biography/

Inspiration Plato

Inspiration Plato. Plato was a philosopher, as well as mathematician, in Classical Greece and an influential figure in philosophy, central in Western philosophy. Plato is one of the world’s best known and most widely read and studied philosophers. He was the student of Socrates and the teacher of Aristotle, and he wrote in the middle of the fourth century B.C.E. in ancient Greece. Though influenced primarily by Socrates, to the extent that Socrates is usually the main character in many of Plato’s writings, he was also influenced by Heraclitus, Parmenides, and the Pythagoreans. Plato’s middle to later works, including his most famous work, the Republic, are generally regarded as providing Plato’s own philosophy, where the main character in effect speaks for Plato himself. These works blend ethics, political philosophy, moral psychology, epistemology, and metaphysics into an interconnected and systematic philosophy.
